The idea of using service learning to teach public speaking is really interesting. When I took a communication course, we had to present to a real audience outside the classroom, and the pressure definitely made us prepare differently. I remember being so nervous about deadlines that I jokingly searched hire someone to do my class for me during finals week. Experiences like this show how real world practice can make speaking skills stick much better than theory alone.
