Pops Classroom & Coronavirus Update

The Pops team is currently assisting schools migrate in-person public speaking classes to online-based classes in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The CDC recommends teleworking and working remotely as a way to prevent the spread of the disease. Converting your class to an online only class is easy. This email will walk you through the steps you can take to do this:

Enabling Video Submissions & Grading Presentations Remotely:

If you haven’t already, turn on “Video Upload” in each assignment’s settings. (Click “EDIT” next to the speech name). Be sure to assign a due date to this portion of the assignment. Inform your students to record their presentations on their cell phones, tablets, or other devices. If possible, recommend students have an audience. Have them upload their presentation into Pops Classroom. (Instructions for mobile devices. Instructions for computers.) You will be able to access their video on their Instructor Feedback form (similar to the example below), if you don’t have a rubric set up yet, please let us know, and we will assist you in the creation process. The video will also be available on the student’s self review and their assigned peer reviewer’s peer review.

Augmenting In-Person Class Workshops with Artificial Intelligence:

Additionally, we are giving all classes access to Pops Advisor for the rest of this semester. Students will be able to submit practice video sessions and receive feedback from artificial intelligence on ways to improve. To add this to your existing classes, click “EDIT” next to the speech name and check the Advisor box (a due date is required). After practice sessions, you can review the recommendations they received and give them credit for practicing at your discretion.

Guiding Students Through Outlining:

If you are not currently using Outliner (Speech Prep), all classes can now access it. This tool allows students to write speech outlines and for teachers to easily give recommendations on them.

Quick Support:

We do not anticipate any interruption to Quick Support for Pops Classroom. If you or your students need assistance please use support.popsclassroom.com, messages submitted on the website go to the entire Pops team and will be answered more quickly than direct emails. Our staff will be transitioning to work from home. If you have a meeting scheduled with a Pops team member, that team member will reach out to you regarding rescheduling or moving to an online setting.

Please continue to follow the recommendations of your institution. If you have any processes that you are unsure how to migrate to an online setting, please reach out to our support team. We are ready to support your needs during this difficult time.
